About
Students want to learn! It's just a little harder these days. We're here to help students and parents make the 2020-2021 academic year as safe, educational, and fun as it can be.
Our team at Tailored Learning Strategies were educators before COVID-19. Today, we teach in new ways- through learning pods, remote and after-school teaching, and a combination of both.
Our teachers and tutors travel to our students to offer in-person instruction for small groups in the safety and comfort of your home. Our staff members include certified New York State teachers and experienced tutors with advanced graduate degrees.
For your convenience, our teachers and tutors will work with your student, in your home or virtually, and create a program that is tailored to the specific needs of your student.
We specialize in providing subject tutoring and homeschooling support for all students. We offer individualized programs for small groups of students, ACT/SAT prep, one-on-one subject tutoring, and homeschooling support for grades K - 12.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When preparing to work a new student, it is very important that the TLS team, the student, and the parents are all on the same page. We need to understand what has been challenging for your student and assess his or her academic foundations before moving forward. We also need to understand what teaching style works best for your child. There are a variety of teaching strategies (modalities if you want to be formal) and it's our job to differentiate learning modalities based on your student's needs.
So, in order to get all this information and make an effective plan for your child, we provide you with some paperwork where you express your thoughts and concerns on his or her academics to date. We also talk to your student to learn what he or she thinks about school work and getting help. Then, we develop a plan that will build your child's skills.
Initally, we focus on building a student's confidence by reviewing the foundations and then expanding to more complex material. Afterall, there's a difference between knowing something and fully understanding it. We want to ensure that your student truly grasps key concepts before we move forward.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Each member of our staff at Tailored Learning Strategies has atleast 5 years of experience tutoring or teaching. We have NYS Certified Teachers and experienced tutors with advanced graduate degrees. Our staff members worked with students at a traditonal brick and mortar education center before the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, our teachers and tutors are mobile educators and will travel to our students so that we can provide supplemental educational services for your student in the safety and comfort of your home. We also offer a virtual option for one-on-one subject tutoring.
What types of students have you worked with?
The teachers and tutors at Tailored Learning Strategies have worked with students of a variety of ages, (Grades K-12 as well as some college students). Some of our students just need help in one particular subject area, such as algebra or US history, while others may need assistance in multiple areas.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't to be afraid ask questions. Consider where you are and where you want to end up and ask your teacher how he or she can help you reach your academic goals.
