Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, we like to take a little time to get to know them. This helps us find their strengths so we can tutor using them. We want the students to feel comfortable when working with us to increase the productivity of the session. Patience is our biggest virtue especially when it comes to working with new students.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our staff all have degrees in various fields: Software Engineering, Biology, Public Health, and Social Work. We also have tutors that are certified in different technologies both software and hardware.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Our base rate is 40$ an hour but we do change depending on circumstances. We are willing to negotiate and try to work with the student to create the best package
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching about 10 years back when some relatives needed help with their homework. From there I started taking on other students and slowly began expanding to different subjects. I found myself passionate about helping others understand their subject rather than just show them how it's done. I have not stopped since, and have only grown with more tutors.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from 1st grade to college level. I have tutored many subjects at different levels.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Many times I have helped students go from failing to a B+/A in the first quarter of their school. My favorite recent event was helping a student go from a 49 average in Math to 91 within 2 months. I strive to make each student a success story.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When looking for a tutor, it's more important that they have patience and are willing to work with you. If they are too strict about their rules, then it also projects to the teaching style. Always look for someone who openly communicates and is flexible.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should know which subjects they need help in, the rest such as specific parts of the subject can be determined in the first session. No need to try too hard to understand which areas you are struggling in, a good tutor can find this out and help remedy the situation.
