Life Science Tutors
About
In high school I found myself struggling to pass my IB science courses and it wasn't until I found a tutor that I was able to turn my grades around. We focused on practicing the problems rather than reading the text book. This is the same technique I bring to my tutoring now. A problem based approach that uses the reading as support material rather than the focal point.
Since high school I have graduated from the University of Washington earning a degree in Neurobiology with a minor in Microbiology. I have worked professionally as a reasearch associate at Yale University and have published into peer reviewed Journals. I am now a second year medical student at Albany Medical College with hopes of becoming a neurosurgeon.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
With a new student I like to have an informal interview about their current study techniques and what study techniques they've tried, this way I can tailor my tutoring towards the student for a more enjoyable and effective session. I also think a tutor's job is to turn roadblocks into speed bumps, so I like to pay special attention to the concepts the student is struggling with. So if for instance the student has been struggling to master all the steps of glycolysis because of the chemistry I can focus on the specific pieces of foundational chemistry needed to understand the process and hopefully save the student from wasting time searching for the answers online. I can also help with tricky homework problems and test taking stratigies.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a second year medical student I spend most of my day studying, which has helped me to develop some tricks to make studying more efficient and more enjoyable. I volunteer at a local high school to help students through their biology labs, and have learned ways to break down some of the barriers that keep students from studying science (it's usually chemistry)
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$25.00/hour -- online session
$50.00/hour -- in person
What you get for this rate: After our first session I will prepare diagrams and practice problems that we can work during the following session. This tailored practice is designed to focus on the student's specific weak points without wasting time on already mastered concepts. We can also work on assigned homework and specific test prep.
