Academic English Tutoring
About
I have over half a decade's worth of experience in tutoring in multiple levels of experience ranging from private school grades 2-8, into college tutoring at the academic level.
I work professionally for several news agencies in the Northern Nevada region as a news reporter/photographer, and I worked previously as an English Tutor with Western Nevada College before starting on my current career path.
I majored in English and Archaeology with a focus in writing and English Literature.
I enjoy the moment I see an "aha" come into a student's eyes, when a lesson they've been struggling to understand finally falls into place.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process for working with a new student would start with asking the student to bring a writing sample during the first meeting to create a baseline. Then we will work from that baseline towards a list of goals created by both myself and the student, which will be scheduled on a timeline to become a more proficient writer.
If there is a course the student is enrolled in that they need specific help in, I will create supplemental activites based on the classwork to create a more well-rounded educational experience through a variety of tactics.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I worked as a writing tutor with Western Nevada College in Carson City for several years before becoming a professional journalist and weekend news editor in the Northern Nevada region.
I also worked as a private homeschool teacher and nanny with a family of four boys aged 5-11 as a writing, reading, history and culture teacher.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing depends on the amount of time the student wants to dedicate to their tutoring and the level of tutoring needed.
How did you get started teaching?
My English professor was impressed with a paper I wrote while attending Western Nevada College and opened a tutoring position at the Academic Skills Center. While working at the ASC, I was approached by a client who hired me to work in a private school tutoring in writing, reading, and classical literature.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from the age of 5 to 65, at all levels of writing, reading and comprehension.
