Isaac Grade School Tutoring

About

I am Isaac Gallegos, and I recently graduated from the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico, with a Bachelor's in Business Administration with concentrations in both Finance and Human Resources. I have significant experience in tutoring grade school students of all ages, as well as teaching university students as a teaching assistant. I recently decided to pursue tutoring as a career while beginning my pursuit of my MBA.

I love helping students who feel like they simply will never get the material they are learning. Time and time again, I've seen students with MASSIVE amounts of potential give up on themselves because they can't grasp certain parts of the material. However, after tutoring them I see how motivated they become once they understand what they need to do to be successful, and that makes me so happy.

    Frequently asked questions

Primarily, my goal is to understand the student's preferred learning style. Therefore, the first step is to ask the student a variety of questions based on what they enjoy/prefer their teacher, parent, and/or instructor do when teaching them new material. This is mainly for younger students, as I can quickly understand how they most efficiently learn new material. Secondly, I focus on understanding what the student is most proficient at in the material I am tutoring them in, as this diagnosis is critical in tutoring from a perspective that they can quickly grasp. Lastly, once I fully understand where the student is either confused or lost with the material, I use simple problem-solving techniques based on the information they already know to let them guide me to what they think the next steps are. This allows the student to both understand where they need to focus, as well as how they should proceed when problem-solving. This in turn allows them to see where their mistakes are and what to do differently when they see the material again. By doing this, the student is able to feel they overcame the problem themselves, and with my guidance, they are able to see how to avoid confusion when facing the same problem again.

While in high school, I was a tutor for younger students both at my church and on the sports teams I was apart of. Once entering the University of New Mexico, I soon got a job as an assistant for the dean of students in the history department. This gave me valuable experience seeing how Research 1 University instructors develop test questions and review sessions for their students. Lastly, for four semesters I was a teaching assistant for a professor at the university, which gave me both experience in teaching large groups of students, as well as grading work and leading review sessions.

All my prices are negotiable! I understand times are rough at the moment, and my goal is to help any struggling student. The complexity of the subject matter and the grade level of your student are taken into account. Ususally for Elementary school tutoring (k-5th) I charge $30 an hour, for Middle school tutoring (6th-8th) I charge $40 an hour, for Highschool tutoring (9th-12th) I charge $50, and for any standardized testing tutoring (SAT, ACT, SBA, etc.) I charge $55 an hour.

Since high school, teaching has always been a passion of mine. I always loved working with students at my church and on my teams to help them achieve better grades. Once reaching college, having the ability to both learn under Research 1 university instructors, and teaching university-level students allowed me to continue this passion in a way that helped develop me significantly as a tutor.

I've worked a variety of students from various grades, backgrounds, and age levels. The most common students that I tutor are grade-level students, however, I've had the opportunity to tutor college-level students as well.

I am here to help you overcome your confusion with your current material. You will be helped in any way you need, however do not expect answers to be given to you.
