What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Need a brief chat about where they are now in terms of schooling and what the goals are. What tests have they taken and what they think they need to improve on.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my substitute teaching certificate. Used to be a volunteer tutor at San Juan College and a regular tutor at Central New Mexico College.
How did you get started teaching?
I was advised to be a tutor because I enjoy sharing what I have learned. I am always excited about the sciences.
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly college students while i was a regular tutor at CNM.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta is always something I attend. I am trying to be a member of a balloon chase crew.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The student should look for a person who has not only have a degree in their field but has used it in the real world. I have my degree in biochemistry and I have worked for the medical investigators office, overseas research, health care field and in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What was the hardest question or concept that is giving you trouble? This needs to be made into a learning issue and tackled so one is comfortable handling this question or concept in the future.
