About
I have been a qualified teacher for 10 years working with young people aged 4 to 18, with a particular focus on Math. I am passionate about igniting a love for learning and seeing the beauty in Mathematics by carefully selecting problems suited to the individual's level. I am strongest working with elementary and middle school students.
I have worked with many students who are not confident in Mathematics. Often this is due to a lack of understanding at some stage in their learning. I get so much joy from seeing those 'light bulb' moments after I've explained the concept in a different way.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to meet with a student and their parent/carer for an introductory meeting where we discuss our shared expectations and plan. In a typical 1 hour session, I begin by establishing what the student knows. There is often one step that has been misunderstood, so by identifying where the problem began, we can work together to build a deep understanding of each topic.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated with a Masters in Inclusive Education in 2019 which I completed through night school while teaching during the day. I focussed my dissertation on Mathematics Pedagogy, considering alternative approaches that can support all learners.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught classes of up to 33 children aged between 4 and 18. I have also worked with students in small groups and on a one-to-one basis. The students have a range of different learning needs and styles, including diagnosed conditions.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Mathematics is a subject built on strong foundations. Often your teacher will have to take a step back to ensure you have understood the previous topics. You should be prepared to revisit topics during a session and do small, regular revision sessions independently throughout the week.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about what you know, rather than what you don't know. At what stage in the learning process did you stop understanding? Are there any areas of Mathematics that you enjoy and feel confident in?
