The Art Spectrum

Hello! My name is Zoe Ambinder I am an employed as an artist living and working in NYC. My memories of creating art as a child are speckled with the people who gave me good advice, who gave me the tools I needed to be successful as an artist. It is my pride and joy that I actually get to create art every single day for a living. Every artist's path is different and unique, all I can do as a tutor is provide you, or your child with the necessary skillset to accomplish your goals.

A little about me and my qualifications: I received my Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University in 2016. Since then, I have taken up a career as a Motion Graphics Artist and currently work for Saturday Night Live. As an artist, I like to have a finger in every pot. I have been oil painting since I was 13 and recently had my work displayed at Mana Contemporary Gallery in Jersey City. I received classical painting and figure drawing training from Arts Students League, Parsons, Cooper Union, and Carnegie Mellon University. During college I decided to apply my vast knowledge of traditional Fine Arts to a new medium: Animation. Since then my love and passion for Fine Arts, both contemporary and classical, has only grown with my new perspective of what art is in the digital age. I now seek to share my training and knowledge of the Fine Arts world with the next generation of great artists.

Some services I offer:

Students Middle-Highschool: If you are in the process of building a body of work for your college portfolio I can provide insight and guidance on how to strengthen your application. I'm just a few years ahead of you so truly, I understand the struggle! I am forever grateful that I sat down with a college level artist mid-way through my application process so she could critique my work. For students, my critiques will likely be structured towards what admissions are looking for, but always with a grain of salt. Art is for art's sake, there is no bad art.

Fine Arts/ Oil Painting/ Drawing

Beginners: For beginners of all ages I reccommend an in-depth crash course. I have structured exercises meant to build your skillset one element at a time. By the end of this course, you will posses both classical training and understanding of oil painting. Depening on age, I have reading materials as well as additional resources on how to continue outside of our sessions. Ways to approach volume, light, gesture, color, and "realism" in painting will be covered.

Advanced: If you have work already or have messed around with some materials, I will help you tailor a specific curriculuum to meet your goals. I can also provide critiques and genuine advice on how to build your body of work.

Animation/Graphic Design

If you are just starting out or are even vaguely interested in this field I am definitely the person to talk to! I had years of practice as an oil painter, navigating an interface vs. mashing my brush against a canvas seemed like entirely different skillsets! Although the muscle memory takes a while to develop, actual understanding of the software can be developed quickly if it is informed by an understanding of the software's capabilities. With Animation and Graphic Design, simplicity is sacred. Through my course I will grow your skillset as animator and graphic designer by optimizing your workflow for efficiency as well as teach you informed approaches to Graphic Design and Animation. If you have a specific project in mind, I can help you develop the skills necessary to complete it.

I have in-depth knowledge of the entire Adobe Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects as well as 3D programs Cinema 4D and Maya.
