Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typically I will spend the first session getting to know a student and using resources to learn more about their learning style, interests, and strengths. I would also ask students to share examples of their work or talk to me about a project they've done that they enjoyed or found challenging, or a book or topic they are interested in. I would also give students an incredible amount of choice and agency around the strategies we would use to help them become invested in our work together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.A. in English and a M.S. in English Education 7-12. I am certified in New York in English Education 7-12 and students with disabilities. I have worked with students with language based learning disabilities for 9 years in grades 3-12. I have Orton-Gilligham training in Preventing Academic Failure and have participated in many professional development courses in different countries studying Holocaust and genocide education.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing would vary based on the work we do together. For virtual or in person session, I would charge by 1/2 hour to 1 hour. I can also provide additional lessons for a specific price or give feedback on work per page. I am very flexible.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with high school English students in my classroom experience, grades 3-12 in my individual tutoring sessions, and spent 5 years working as a reading teacher for elementary aged students in an after school program. I specialize in executive functioning and organizational coaching, essay writing, reading, general homework help, etc.
