About

I think that my greatest strength as a tutor is that I have a variety of experiences I can draw from to help my students. As a practicing resident doctor, I can draw on real life applications of biology. As a former high school biology teacher I bring the perspective of someone who has actually written test questions on the subjects you learn about. And finally, and most importantly, as, essentially a full time student myself, I have so much experience with finding what study techniques work for you, and also just understanding how stressful school can be and hopefully using my extensive experience to help students avoid some common pitfalls I've experienced myself.

    Frequently asked questions

To begin with I like to learn about the students goals and expectations for our sessions, whether that be to prepare for an exam, help them through a specific problem topic, or generally keep up with the class, etc. Once I understand what the student is hoping to learn I can better tailor our sessions to their specific needs. I typically like to use my sessions to go through sets of practice problems with students. I find that having students talk through their thought processes while trying to answer actual questions brings out many questions and errors in thinking that would never come up otherwise. This is a great way to not only help them learn the material, but, equally as important, to help teach them how to think about problem solving and understand how their brains work through problems naturally and how we can tweek that process to be more effective.
