About

For over 15 years I have worked with students in the classroom, in small groups and individually to help them grow confident in themselves as they learn to master fundamental skills for reading and math. My experience has taught me that every student's needs and ways of learning must be understood. Taking the time to establish that trust ultimately brings success and self esteem to the learner. This is my passion.

I currently work part time in my school district as a reading teacher in the TItle 1 program supporting students who need some "extra" independent time to work on literacy skills. In addition, I have successfully tutored elementary level math both online and in small group after school settings. My practice is called esteem tutoring because it is critical to build a student's self esteem in order to want to learn. My job is to do that build their confidence and find what they love in order to spark their love of learning.

My son was experiencing learning differences in his school, so I learned everything there was to know about individualizing the learning experience. I commit to ongoing training in literacy skills and teaching practices.

Celebrating a going away party with one of my students whose family moved back to Brazil after I tutored him for 2 years.  Very proud of his accomplishments

Every student should be honest with their teacher.  If you are having difficulty understanding a concept, let the teacher know. It could be for many reasons. Work it out together.   If you just don't like a particular subject, tell the teacher and maybe there is a different way to approach the material ( a more interesting way for you)

Ask your teacher if there is another way to explain material you don't understand. Ask the teacher to give you an example that will fit your world (how you can make a personal connection) Work it out together.
