MY EXPERIENCE
I have lived, worked, and traveled extensively in Southern France, and I have been a private French tutor since 2005.
Previously, I worked for twenty years as a K-12 certified French teacher. I have taught all levels of high school French, including levels 1-AP.
Since having my own company, I have worked with students of all ages and backgrounds and have:
- prepared many elementary, middle, high school, and college students for beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses
- prepared students traveling to France for the first time
- prepared a US Navy Seal for an international assignment
- assisted a prospective French teacher in passing her NJ Certification Test
- worked with a social worker who has since transferred to the field in Cameroon
- taught families preparing for extended stays in French-speaking countries
- helped a beginner gain fluency so that he could move abroad to pursue his Master's degree at the IMD Business School in Lausanne, Switzerland
- helped a college student complete the entire French 1 curriculum in one summer so that he could comfortably navigate living and studying at Laval University in Quebec
PERSONAL INTERESTS
My personal interests include playing tennis since I was a small boy. I have played piano professionally in a jazz quartet for many years. I also enjoy lifting weights, hiking, walking and jogging. I am an amateur chef as well. Lastly, I volunteer as an ESL teacher for our local Haitian community.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my experience and qualifications with you.
With 15 years of teaching experience, we can work together to achieve your goals.
I look forward to guiding you on your journey.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
With new students, I ask about previous experiences they have had with the French language. I ask students to speak about their preferred leaning styles and state their language goals. In response, I prepare a variety of activities which are thorough and rigorous and that relate directly to what my students are studying. These carefully selected activities are intended to reinforce what students are currently learning and to globally enhance their language skills.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in French and Psychology with a minor in Sociology and an ESL Certification. I studied French language, culture and literature. I have lived, worked and traveled extensively in Southern France. During my tenure as a French Instructor, I regularly attended New Jersey World Language Summer Technology Institute, The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Workshops as well as the American Teachers of Foreign Languages(AATF) professional development workshops.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
How did you get started teaching?
I began loving the French language and culture as a middle school student. I continued in high school through AP and then majored in French in college. I then went to live and work in France and I still have many ties to the culture and community in which I lived. Most importantly I am close with my former principal, colleagues and their families.
What types of students have you worked with?
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am particularly proud of preparing students for professional field work opportunities and transfers to French speaking countries, as well as a recent summer student who learned her school's entire French 1 curriculum in three intense weeks of study.
I am also extremely proud of the reviews from both parents and students that I have received over the course of the last 20 years.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise a customer to ask about the provider's teaching experience and credentials I would suggest that customer inquire as to which teaching methodology or textbook series will be used as the basis for the lessons and why those are the provider's preferred tools. I would advise a customer to be patient and persevere. Learning a language requires time and practice. Additional questions I would recommend asking: Does my prospective tutor use French websites and online practice activities. Can I use a variety of online websites with the guidance of my tutor ? Will I be able to work at my pace or will the tutor impose a pace of instruction. Will my tutor use activities and resources that develop listening, reading, speaking and writing skills ? How will I communicate with my tutor and how will my progress be assessed?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do I have a clear goal and a plan to achieve that goal ? How is my time management ? Can I devote time each day to memorize and to study, even if it's only 10 to 15 minutes. Do I understand that daily practice is the key to quick progress?!
