About

Hello! Thanks for checking out my tutoring services. My name is Paige and I've been a science teacher for 20 years. I am a certified teacher of the handicap in the state of NJ and highly qualified to teach language arts and social studies as well. I've taught both high school and middle school students in an alternative private school setting. I've taught biology, chemistry, equine science and zoology. I absolutely LOVE teaching science and I especially love it when students have that "ah-ha!" moment! Science should be exciting, engaging and most of all fun! So, join me and let me help you reach your academic science goals and have fun at the same time!

Mrs. Barnett is an amazing teacher and tutor. She made what can be a difficult subject fun and interesting! She took a student with a moderate interest in Science and fostered it into a life long love of learning. To this day I still find myself researching the new advancements of things I learned in her class and applying the critical thinking skills I learned. One of the things I will say about Mrs. Barnett is that once you are her student you will remain so for life. To this day she is still helping me come up with Science Projects to complete with my child. I have known Mrs. Barnett a long time and can say that she will also never give up on a student, I have seen her working passionately and diligently with students that may need extra help or show little interest in Science. If your child is fortunate enough to have Mrs. Barnett come into his/her life then you can rest assured that your child has the best Chemistry teacher in the world in their corner.

Frequently asked questions

Firstly, I like to get some background information on the student to help develop a good working interpersonal student/teacher relationship. I might ask them if they have a hobby or what's their favorite sport? Then I'll ask them about school. What do they like best/least?  If there is a parent involved, I will ask the parent about their child's overall academic experience. Has the child found school easy, hard?  Have they needed additional services? Or a 504 plan?  I will ask the parent and student how they feel they learn best. I will ask where do they feel they need the most help with the subject matter.  From here we can create a plan and develop goals.

I have science degree with additional credits in education. I am a certified teacher of the handicap and am highly qualified to teach biology, chemistry, language arts and social studies.

I began teaching in 2000 when I decided to segue from being a riding instructor to utilizing my science degree.  I returned to my alma mater Delaware Valley College (now University) to earn my teaching credentials.  Many of the parents of the children I taught riding lessons to would often ask me if I had considered teaching in a classroom and would often compliment me on how clear and concise my teaching style was as well as how much fun I'd have with my students.

I've worked with students from the ages of 13 through 18, both middle school and high school.  The students I've taught over the majority of my career have been students who have IEP's and were referred to an alternative school setting as they were not thriving in a regular ed classroom.

Graduation.  I love seeing my students who had so many obstacles to overcome make it to graduation day.  It makes me so proud of them; knowing their stories and the struggles they've endured to get to this day.

If you are looking for a teacher for any area of expertise, a. do they love what they do? and b. do you feel they are kind and can connect with your specific academic needs?

The student should reflect on how they can best advocate for their own needs. Or if they aren't sure exactly what it is they need, but they know that they are struggling to know that it's ok to ask for help, simply by stating "I need help, I don't think I understand."  Students can ask themselves, what about this topic is it that I don't understand?  If the student can zero in on the specific need, they can ask a more specific question like, "I don't understand X and how X does this. Can you clarify this idea for me?"
