About

Hi, My name is Maher. I have over 15 years of tutoring. Although I am relatively new to tutors.com, I have tutored online and in person extensively for the past 15 years (currently reaching out to past students for reviews). I am in my final year of medical school, and concurrent PhD in environmental engineering.

My tutoring philosophy: I want to break everything down from large difficult concept to simple ones that are easy to understand. Real mastery is when a d difficult concept can be explained in a simple way. I make sure every plan I make with my students is tailored specifically for their needs. I make it my priority when teaching to not just teach a student to memorize facts but to understand the concepts themselves so that everything can be intuitive. Even at the graduate level, difficult concepts can be explained with simple instruction.

I needed help with math, and I had been struggling with it a lot. Maher made me really easily understand the concepts and over time it really got a lot less scary. Helped me do well on my SAT Math, I got a 780!

Maher is a phenomenal tutor. He has tutored me for many years, and I first met him when I was struggling with general chemistry. He explained the very difficult concepts to me in a way that made me not only understand them, but empowered me to pursue science further. After I graduated college, I continued tutoring with Maher, completed a Masters in Biomedical Sciences, completed my MCAT, and am now in medical school. He really helped me not only learn chemistry, but turn my life around and go from struggling with science to mastering it and becoming a doctor. He is an amazing tutor, and the way he breaks down subjects into basic and simple concepts stays with you for a long time.

    Frequently asked questions

What I usually do is I will invite the student to book a trial lesson with me. If that goes well, then we will make a plan together for how to spend our sessions, what to focus on, and how to evaluate improvement. I am pretty flexible about time, and do all my tutoring online.

I am currently a PhD in Environmental Engineering and MD student in my last year. I have been a private tutor for over 10 years. I have been a TA (teaching assistant) at the graduate level as well. My coursework in collge, Masters, and PhD have given me a lot of experience with the courses I tutor themselves, and allowed me to be able to break down very complex topics into easy to understand concepts.

My rate is 50 dollars an hour for online tutoring. For in person is usually 65 an hour unless it’s over a half hour away, in which case will need to discuss additional for travel time

I started tutoring in high school. I had completed all the AP science and math exams, and volunteered to tutor at my school's IDEAS center. After that, I worked at Rutgers as a student tutor, and eventually began tutoring privately. I continued to tutor as I pursued and completed my Masters in Biomedical Sciences. After completing my MS I still tutored during my PhD in Environmental Engineering and MD program

I have worked with students at all levels, both struggling and doing well. Most of my struggling students were having difficulty understanding concepts that were not taught adequately in school. After tutoring, they were able to understand the concepts in a simple, intuitive way, and when they would make mistakes, we would build on these concepts intuitively. Students that were more advanced and just wanted to do better would come to me, mostly for test prep, and I would teach them how to solve problems in a test-oriented way, identify mistakes, and build test-taking skills as well as improve concepts.
