Joelle Santiago is an accomplished academic and artist who holds a B.A. from Barnard College of Columbia University, Cum Laude. She has tutored privately for three years, on top of teaching professionally in collegiate and college prep settings. She is a Fulbright Scholar, and the director of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts Summer Program, teaching dance history and theory. As a writing coach and tutor, she works with students preparing college essays/ preparing for college level work, undergraduate students, and Master's candidates, to refine their composition, writing, and critical thinking skills.

Joelle is an ardent learner and is likewise passionate about teaching others. As an undergraduate, she was nominated for the Grace Lee Boggs Bold Award for her commitment to community building. During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic she launched (and taught within) a volunteer tutoring system to assist NYC school families struggling to adjust to the crisis. She continues to teach dance workshops to K-12 students. Full resume and transcript available upon request.

Joelle received 5/5 scores on her AP Literature, AP Language, and AP Psychology exams in high school.

Language is a generous teacher; it continues to be a tremendous pleasure to witness and partake in students' learning, and to watch their confidence grow.

“Joelle read my manuscript with love and careful eyes. Her edits and corrections were thorough and frank, and my writing benefitted from her proclivity towards structure and tone. My paper now harbors a clear line of thought and is structurally reinforced-- I highly recommend Joelle as a second pair of eyes, and as a generator of ideas.” - Tyler Cunningham, BFA Juilliard School, MM University of Toronto

I loved working with Joelle, she really helped me get through a lot of my English work in a very efficient manner. As well as helping me build a confidence to be able to achieve what she taught me to achieve by myself. It’s almost like she gave me my wings to fly and you will be glad to have her as your tutor!

Joelle has worked with me as a dance educator, so I have seen her skills firsthand. She has an easy way with children which helps them feel comfortable talking to her and opening up. Joelle is an incredibly hard worker and is always prompt, courteous, and efficient. She has a contagious laugh and a joyfulness about her that makes her great with children who need to feel that learning is fun! Your children will enjoy their time learning with Joelle and and you will feel confident they are in good hands.

Joelle has been a wonderful support to my children. As a blessing to our family Joelle started tutoring sessions during the COVID-19 lockdown. She has a way of making their tutorial sessions fun but also incredibly helpful. I noticed a huge increase in their confidence tackling both English and Science under her care. They asked for her all summer and wanted her back as soon as school resumed in the fall. She is truly a gift to anyone that works with her. Joelle is a great educator and helped my children so much! She is always on time and communicated regularly about my children’s progress. (Parent of 7 and 8 years old gifted and special needs children)

    Frequently asked questions

My process for working with a new student centers their goals, and developing a professional relationship founded on trust and respect. Together, we will create a work plan so that we both have a clear sense of what goals we will accomplish.

I have tutored privately for 3 years, sharing my love for writing, reading, editing, and language with others. I hold a Bachelors from Barnard College of Columbia University, Cum Laude, and I am currently a Fulbright Finalist (2023). I am the director of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts Summer Program, and an adjunct faculty member. I created and taught a dance history course for the program.

    Lessons begin at $20/hr.

I have studied with master teachers at Barnard College, Columbia University, and the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, although I have been teaching dance classes to young students since I was 13!

My expertise is in the following areas: coaching and editing for undergraduate students and Master's candidates, college essay prep, and college prep. In the three years that I have tutored, I've had the privledge of working with students of many different abilities and learning backgrounds. I have worked with English Language Learning students from Haiti, NYC public and charter school students who were studying for science classes, and students with specialized needs who needed extra support in writing.

Look for educators with professional experience, who are goal-oriented, and are always seeking to improve their skillset.
