What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I am a diagnostic teacher. I begin with an interview to determine the students level of functionality and goals for tutoring.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
i have an undergraduate degree in education and speech therapy from Brooklyn College and a Masters from Columbia University Teachers College.
i ran a very successful Peer Mediation/Conflict Resolution Program for 15 years.
I was a highly successful and adored Special Education Teacher for 38 years.

How did you get started teaching?
i always wanted to be a teacher and treasure the career I have had in the Public Schools of NYC.
What types of students have you worked with?
I specialize in foreign students, special needs and that includes the gifted. I taught elementary school students, middle school students and adults.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love the “lightbulb “ moments when something clicks for a student. I recently tutored a young Korean woman who needed to become more proficient in written and oral language skills to get into an art school of her choice. Her face exuded joy as she heard herself on a recording of our session. Loved that!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Check credentials if possible and do the first session as a trial run. Comfort is crucial.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Explain your purpose for tutoring in as much detail as possible and how you learn best. Explain what makes learning difficult or easier for you.
