Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to begin working with a new student by speaking with the parent to obtain their perspective on the challenges and goals ot tutoring. Then I speak with the student individually to gain their perception of the struggles they face and together we set goals for our sessions together. Lastly I like to reach out to the teachers to gain a more specific and professional analysis of the individual needs and current strategies being taught.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I recieved my undergraduate degree is social studies and elementary education from Ramapo College. After several years in the classroom, I went back to obtain my special education certification from William Paterson. I ultimately earned my Master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge a flat fee of $50 for an hour of direct student contact time. I do not charge for time taken to prepare for tutoring sessions or contact teachers. I believe that all students should have access to individualize professional support to help them excel academically, which is why charge an affordable rate.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always wanted to teach, since I was in middle school. I was inspired by teachers who helped and inspired me and I wanted to do the same for others.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from third grade through twelfth grade in classroom as well as individual tutoring-type settings. In addition, I have worked with a variety of special needs students ranging from ADD/ADHD and Austim Spectrum Disorder to students with severe cognitive impairments, such as Down Syndrome.
