Locke It Down Tutoring
About
I do one-on-one homework help and class-based test review, assisting and reinforcing the material students are already working with. I hold a Master's from Columbia, and completed by Bachelor's at the University of Michigan. I am able to assist with K-12, including high school/AP courses and on the collegiate level.
This includes for political science and political theory, social sciences, international studies, English language & literature, Spanish language, history, and AP Calculus and statistics.
I have taken classes in education from the University of Michigan School of Education (no formal qualification).
While education is serious business, I don't take myself seriously, and I work to make sessions as enjoyable as possible! (If you couldn't tell from my John Locke pun!)
I love that a-ha! moment, a good book discussion, and talking policy, and appreciate it when I can be challenged by and learn with my students.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to learn about what subject(s) a student is looking for help with; where they are in their studies and understanding of the material, and where they would like to be. I also like to get a better sense of what their learning style is, and what has (un)successfully worked in the past.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm an international relations professional and have extensive academic exposure to fields in the social sciences and humanities. I also have prior teaching experience, working at an International School in college as well as teaching 3rd grade Spanish in the Ann Arbor Public Schools as part of the Ann Arbor Languages Partnership.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I firmly believe that cost should not be a barrier to accessing education or attaining academic success, and am willing to work with students and/or families to establish reasonable agreements for those who would struggle to afford my normal rates.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Accepting the help of a tutor can be hard for many of reasons, so it's important you find someone who you think you will be able to be honest and relaxed around.
