About
Welcome to Logos Tutoring!
With a Ph.D. degree and 20+ years of teaching experience, I am able to respond to the needs of a wide variety of students. I am currently an Assistant Professor at a liberal arts college on the west coast, having previously taught at major universities in New York City and the Midwest. I have also mentored and tutored both undergraduates and K-12 students in 1-on-1 settings.
I teach across several humanities disciplines, including English, literature (and composition), history, philosophy, and religion. What unites my approach to all of these disciplines is a the focus on texts--either reading and interpreting them, or writing and editing them. I am particularly excited to help students develop their reading comprehension and writing skills. I love helping students craft well-designed essays--including college application essays!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I'd like to understand the student's goals. I will assign practice problems and assignments that are most directly related to achieving these goals. During our sessions, we will typically work through the student's homework assignment and I'll provide personalized guidance and correction. For those studying for standardized tests, I'll provide plenty of practice exams that are indistinguishable from a real test, so that the student will feel comfortable on the day of the exam!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Ph.D. degree in literature and 20+ years of teaching experience. I currently teach literature and writing at a major university and I have previously taught at two other universities in NYC. I have also mentored and tutored both undergraduates and K-12 students in 1-on-1 settings for several years. I have published academic journal articles in the top scholarly journals in my field, so my writing skills have been proven at the highest level in the scholarly world.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students of all ages! My youngest student so far was just four years old, and my oldest was in his 60's.
