About

Currently, I am the lead teacher for the Project Lead the Way Engineering Program at Salem High School. I had previously developed the engineering program at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology (both in New Jersey).

I have over 20 years of teaching experience in math, physics, geology, meteorology, and general science in all grade levels from middle school through college sophomore.

Education:

B.A. in General Science with a minor in mathematics from Rutgers University in New Jersey

Masters in Teaching Secondary Mathematics from The American University in Washington D.C.

Masters in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) in Blackburg, Virginia

I love being a teacher. I take very seriously the fact that I can change the trajectory of a student’s life on any given day. I am fortunate in that I have taught a wide range of math, science and engineering courses over my career. This enables me to widen the perspective on lessons in a way that makes learning more relevant to the student and, hopefully, makes my students more curious about the world. In my time teaching (and learning) I believe that the most successful students where not the ones with the genius mind, but rather the ones that had the greatest curiosity and the work ethic to make things happen. My goal gaol is always to spur curiosity and discover the satisfaction and rewards of doing the hard work.

    Frequently asked questions

With my math tutoring, I usually start by having the student tell me what perceived issues they believe they have in overcoming a difficult concept.  I then develop a way forward for them to understand that concept in the quickest way possible.  Though I try to relieve the cause of difficulty as quickly as possible, I believe that in most circumstances it is important that the student also understand the base concept behind the algorithm that gets them to a solution so that they are able to move forward on their own without my help.

$60/hour at my location or at a local place of the students choosing.  Longer travel distances will incur an extra charge (usually a flat fee of $10).
