History And Humanities Tutoring
About
I have a wide variety of background experience and skills. I have worked as a zookeeper, a whale watcher, a writer, and a scientist. I am a published historian, scientist, and poet. I have a Master's degree in history as well as a degree in Environmental Science and English. Because of my diverse background, I can adapt my teaching style to many different types of learners.
I loved the subject of history when I was a student, but I never had a teacher who shared my passion. As a tutor I want to give students the opportunity I never had: to learn history from someone who truly loves history.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I try to get a gauge of the student's non-academic interests, in hopes that I can find a way to connect those interests to the lesson. This is often quite easy in the subject of history, as everything from sports to movies to video games to heavy metal music can connect to history.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master's degree from Norwich University in World History, where I had a 3.8 GPA. I also write history lessons for Study.com.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Prices may vary. I round down on time so you don't have to pay extra if our lesson goes 10 or 20 minutes long.
$35/hr via internet.
$40/hr in person.
How did you get started teaching?
In my junior year of high school, my US History teacher skipped teaching World War Two because "that's just battles and stuff and it's not real history." As a result, students were going into the final exam not knowing how the war ended, or even who's side the US was on. Granted, teacher or no teacher, they probably should have known these things. Still, knowing that I was a history nerd, many of the students asked me to give them a lesson on World War Two. I've loved teaching ever since.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher with a good grasp of technology and one who can master multiple teaching styles.
