Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Initially, I like to spend a little time getting to know my student so that we can build a relationship and I can figure out the best way to help him or her.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 15 years teaching experience in a public high school. I am licensed in both English and Special Education. I have a Master's Degree in Special Education and I am close to completing a second Master's Degree in English with a focus on writing.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is negotiable, but I usually start at $40/hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always had a love of helping others, especially children so I knew that I wanted to become a teacher even at a young age. I got my first teaching job in a high school and loved working with older kids, even though I had spent most of my student teaching in the younger grades. I enjoy the challenge of high school students and level of conversation. However, I also do enjoy working with younger kids and I am a mother of young child.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked mostly with highschool students in an urban setting, however, I have taught students at all levels, from special needs to honors level.
