Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get to know a student's interests, their strengths, their anxieties, and styles of learning first. Then, I like to have students identify some goals, including one that is outside their comfort zone! We make a plan that we both can agree on, and then I tailor lessons to student interests to help them along their path to reach these goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received my Educator licensure from Harvard Graduate School of Education, in addition to a B.A. in psychology. I recently received my Master's degree in secondary education with an emphasis in English as a Second Language. I also direct an ESL program in the South of Lebanon where I train and work with volunteer English teachers. I have 6 years of formal classroom experience, teaching introductory ESL, high school social studies, and International Baccalaureate classes as well. I am a matriculating PhD student in Educaiton.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard rate is $30 an hour with the opportunity for more lessons at a slightly higher rate.
How did you get started teaching?
I have had a lifelong passion for teaching. My mom is a teacher, and education runs in our blood. I loved school, but also knew that so many others around me did not. I wanted to share my knowledge and help others find the things they liked to learn as well.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with elementary, middle, and high-school aged students from almost every educational, socioeconomic, and linguistic background you can think of.
