About

Right Brain is an all-ages and all-levels service to help anyone inspired to create art or entertainment, or succeed in school, improve their writing skill, from a published author who has been writing regularly for 10 years+, with extensive experience in editing, reading, and publishing. Writing is a learned skill, and with Right Brain, students can skip much of the long years of trial-and-error self-teaching foibles writers endure, with the experience of someone who has been there.

During sessions, I will bring examples and write some of my own to demonstrate what should and shouldn't be done in writing, and give valuable feedback tailored to the individual based on his/her writing style, in addition to teaching lessons and theories, and helping with publishing goals, should the writer have them.

Here is my author's page on Amazon: amazon.com/author/jonkalantjakos

and my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/jon.kalantjakos

I love it for what it is - self-expression and creation, making something from nothing. The editing I enjoy at least as much. It feels like tinkering with old cars - a happy occupation that never ends.

    Frequently asked questions

Getting to know them by talking about interests and what they like to read, and within the first half hour, assigning a short project I can evaluate within that session, giving feedback before I leave, as well as assigning a 'theme', that is, the standard 5-paragraph paper involving the thesis statement in the intro, 3 body paragraphs, and conclusion, so I can better assess the student the next time we visit.

Associate's in Liberal Arts from MCC-Elkhorn

10 years of writing and editing experience (self-taught)

I charge 30 for one hour. Every hour after that is 20% off the total. For instance: six hours would be 6 x 30 - 20% or 180 - 36 = 144 (cash or check written out to Right Brain Tutoring). If there is a week or day you can't pay, I put it on the tab, due on the 1st of the next month. First session is a free get-to-know-you meeting to help you decide if I am the right tutor for you.

I hadn't seen a play in 16 years before last week - we saw the Brigit St. Brigit production of Steven Sondheim's 'Assassins' because my mother was playing the proprietor. I can't lie - I went into it with certain expectations, not being real fond of musicals, and came out of it truly glad for the experience.

That the difference between education and experience is mainly just money and government recognition. The only way to learn a learned skill is through experience, and that can come at school, or somewhere else. Either way, there's no way to avoid the reality that a teacher must be experienced in what they teach. Research your candidate.

What are my goals? Are they simply to get a passing grade in school, or something more? Am I willing to take someone else's word for it, even if my opinion conflicts with it? Am I ready for the reality check that, tutor or no, I'm not going to be an expert tomorrow?
