About
Greetings!
I've been a teacher or tutor for many years and in many subject areas. My college major was in Music Education. Summers found me giving guitar lessons to less fortunate children to play the guitar. Doing this brought me great enjoyment. After graduating from college, I taught grades 5-7 for 2 years as a full-time music teacher. In my spare time, I taught beginner piano lessons. After having 2 babies and being a stay-at-home mom, I returned to teaching as a substitute and had the opportunity to work with students in kindergarten through 6th grade. I really enjoyed the opportunity to teach many different subjects and on many different levels.
My recent experience has been as a reading tutor in a public school. I worked with students in grades 1-3 and in small groups with 1-4 students. This was a different experience for me as I never had the chance to work with such small groups. It gave me the opportunity to not only tutor in reading but to get to know my students on a closer level.
While music education was my college major, I was able to continue my education in Spanish. I have been able to use my knowledge of this language in jobs I have held outside of teaching, and I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to speak it and keep up my knowledge of it. I'm happy to offer my services in teaching English to Spanish speakers or to tutor Spanish to students learning it in school.
My interests in other areas are in watching college sports as I live in an area with 3 excellent universities, all of which excel in sports. Other interests are listening to music, playing games like Wordle, and Words with Friends and doing crosswords. I do not play games like Minecraft or Fortnite but i am very familiar with them because my recent students love them. If I could operate a controller, I might have played more computer games but really, I am just not very good at it.
I would love to get to know you and learn about you and your interests. What are your favorite subjects and what do you like to do for fun?
