Hello! My name is Meredith Bain, and I recently finished my first year of teaching high school algebra and precalculus. I graduated summa cum laude from the mathematics program at NC State, where I was a Goodnight Scholar and Udall Scholar. I have 4 years of tutoring experience at Mathnasium, specializing in mathematics for grades 3-12 and test prep for the ACT and SAT. I love helping students be successful in their math classes - I live for the moment when a hard concept "clicks" for a student after a bit of practice!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I generally like to get to know students during the first session to see where they are in their math career, what goals they have for their current math courses, and what strategies might be useful in overcoming any obstacles they are facing. Then, the student and I develop a realistic study/learning plan to help guide us for the duration of tutoring.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 1 year of experience teaching precalculus, SAT prep math, and algebra at an international high school. I graduated from NC State with a 3.9 GPA and a Bachelors of Science in mathematics. I also have mathematics research experience, and I was an instructor at Mathnasium for all four years of college.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a wide variety of students including adult learners studying for the GRE or taking math courses in career-change degree programs, high school high-achievers working towards a perfect SAT math score, and students of all ages who are working to catch up to grade level. Any and all learners are welcome!
