About
Hi! My name is Kyndal. I'm a recent graduate of UNC Chapel Hill with a major in English- a really boring field for many, but one I've always found to be enriching and exciting! I have also had detailed background in the life sciences and will be attending pharmacy school in the fall. I'm passionate about my studies, both in the sciences and literature, and seek to engage my students in the same way by creating examples and interests relevant to their own lives. I hope to meet you soon!
What I enjoy about literature is the creativity and escape involved in both reading and writing. For those who do it well, reading is just like watching TV- except with the added benefit of academic engagement and expanding your vocabulary! And the best part is that the two go hand in hand. Once you learn to enjoy reading, writing skills often develop naturally from a greater literary background. I'm also very interested in science, which is extremely opposite to my background in reading. Science can be so cool, but only when you are able to understand it. That's where I come in! I enjoy breaking down these complex concepts and looking for the "aha" moment in my students. Once they get it, they can go anywhere!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to have an introductory meeting first, to see their level and their interests and where we discuss what exactly needs work. Usually this is more of a conversation, and I prefer to let the students lead it- the more comfortable they are with me, the more willing they will be to learn.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I went to UNC Chapel Hill and majored in English with a minor in neuropsychology. I am attending pharmacy school in the fall- location to be decided!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Depending on the subject and level of detail it does vary. Typically, my pricing ranges from $18 per hour for more basic material, like general reading, and can increase based on the amount of preparation I need to put into the sessions and the difficulty of the material.
How did you get started teaching?
I have tutored throughout high school and college and have a knack for working with children. It was usually on a volunteer basis, but I have found that I am able to extend this in my free time and started for profit teaching at the Princeton Review, teaching SAT materials to high school students.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages, from elementary to high school.
