I am currently a EC teacher for 6th and 7th grade autism and behavior students. This means children with an IEP or 504 plan I have extension experience with. I know how to modify lessons to a student and how to get work done with the students. I teach all subjects this year. Last school year I instructed all middle school ages in the same small group setting. My back ground is science based but I have a passion for ELA

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like having a conversation with the parent as well as the student. Figure out what the goal is and what the student is interested in. Making learning fun is how I keep my students interested.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been employed as a teachers assistant or a paraprofessional (in other states) for 2 years now. And I was a substitute teacher for 2 years before that
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I would price my sessions at $15 an hour or $30 a session if it goes longer than 2 hours.
How did you get started teaching?
My degree field is in my alma maters college of education. I also have a minor in Special ED.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught all ages 1st to sophmore. I have personally instructed 5th through 8th as a paraprofessional. All my middle school students have IEPs or 504 plans. That means anything from ADHD to low functioning Autism.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have two students working hard on their math skills. One has lower functioning autism and he has mastered 3 x3 subtraction and the other has up to her 5 times tables.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
label your feelings when you have difficult times understanding in school. Can your tutor modify the work to help you understand it better.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Is this something I need explained better?
Do I need more examples?
Do I need shown the steps laid out on paper?
Should I be using tools or resources?
