About
Hi! I have many years of experience working with students of all ages and backgrounds. If you want to learn, I can help you. Whether you need help with reading, writing, crafting effective speeches, or even understanding basic math, I can help you learn how to learn better! I love to find ways to make learning fun because real learning is not boring- it is exciting! Learning is easier when you enjoy it.
I am very patient with my students because I understand what it is like to struggle with comprehension of some types of content. ( I struggled with grasping the concept of division in third grade, but my best friend helped me "get it"! ) I know that one explanation does not fit all. People need to hear different ways of breaking down meanings of things in order to understand better. I try to align my explanations to fit my students' interests and experiences.
My background includes a BA in art history, a certificate to teach high school English, an MA in English with a concentration in film studies and visual literacy endorsement, and an ADRN (Associate s Degree Registered Nurse)(I worked in nursing for 10 years, but I wanted to return to the education field.) I have several years (over 15) of experience tutoring students ranging in age from 4-82. ( The 82 year old student wanted me to tutor her in speed reading and typing. She was also learning Greek from another tutor!). I also have several years of experience as a college instructor of English, writing, culture and diversity, as well as college orientation and study skills courses. I currently am an adjunct English instructor at GTCC. I love helping students catch on and become excited about learning!
