About

I am a third year PhD student in Statistics at UNCG with a passion to help others learn Math and Stats better. I teach Business Algebra at UNCG and offer tutoring services in Math and Stats courses for undergraduate and graduate students. I have completed all of my required PhD coursework (with a GPA of 4.0) and am working towards my research goal now.

Equipped with strong communication skills and empathy, I understand how Math and Stats do not come as easy to some students and I like to use an empathetic approach to empower them to feel capable of solving problems independently. I enjoy watching my students realize they knew the answer all along but were complicating things too much because of their own preconceived notions about Math as a subject.

My goal is to help students build confidence in their quantitative abilities and to understand that Math/Stats are not monsters - that by breaking down problems into a set of smaller, more achievable tasks, it is possible to accomplish success in the subject.

Frequently asked questions

I like to listen to the challenges the student is facing and try to understand whether they prefer a formula based approach or an application based approach to learning. I also like to be consistent with how they are taught in class/school in my tutoring so that they don't feel confused.

Outside of tutoring and teaching Math and Stats professionally, I have experience tutoring my younger brother in Math and Stats during his school and MBA as he has always struggled with quantitative concepts. It has helped me be more empathetic towards those who aren't as strong at Math.

Yes. I believe I charge a fair quote which takes into my account my skills as a compassionate educator. I do understand that it is hard earned money and you would want your money's worth and my goal is make that happen for you.

If you are one of those students who consider themselves strong at Math/Stats, you could pretty much go with any teacher who is able to work through the problems. If however, you feel like you struggle with them, please ensure you find someone who wouldn't be harsh and judge mental towards you. Being an educator in Math, I know far too many educators who are not to kind or inclusive towards those who struggle with Math.

Set aside their own goals first. It comes at a price which might be difficult to bear so it is important to really have clarity on what the goal is - whether it is to just have someone solve problems or to have someone help them solidify their understanding. It requires some additional skills to do the latter and it would help them pick teachers appropriate to their requirements.
