About
My tutoring sessions are fun and stress-free! Being in a class with a lot of students can be intimidating when the subject being taught is hard to understand. I am patient, compassionate, and pretty funny! I want my students to feel comfortable with me, knowing that they are allowed to make mistakes. Each mistake leads to a correction which leads to success!
One thing I've always loved about tutoring students is seeing the progress over time. It brings me so much joy to know that what I am doing for them is helping them succeed in areas they originally struggled in. I believe that every tutor requires great communication and creativity skills, so I definitely enjoy switching up my methods to ensure that the student fully understands what is being taught!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, before starting my sessions with students, I prefer to see the student’s assigned schoolwork. I ask them, or the parents, what it is about the topic and the classwork that is challenging for them. Following that discussion, while keeping their learning style in mind, if it's known, I will prepare a lesson plan that I think will work best for the student. During our sessions, I want my student to be engaged and have a memorable time! We will start with a short deep breathing exercise to release any prior stress and bring our undivided attention to our one-on-one session. We will choose one problem they are struggling with and pick it apart step-by-step. I will explain what the goal is and why specific steps occur because knowing "the why" can be challenging as well. Once they understand, we celebrate, move on to the next few steps until the problem is solved, and celebrate again! Then we go to the next question and repeat!
For English/Reading students, if they are struggling with writing skills, I will take a look at their previous writing work and take note of their strengths and what needs improvement. While there will be a great focus on their struggling points, I will also see how I can improve their strengths because there is always room for improvement. If the focus is spelling and/or pronunciation, I will begin with a test to see where they are and create work for our sessions and outside of our sessions.
For my beginning Spanish students, we will start by learning the alphabet. Once they understand the pronunciation of each letter, I begin teaching them very basic vocabulary and short sentence structures. These will, of course, be assigned as short homework assignments as well. For those who consider themselves to be intermediate or beginner-intermediate, we will have a discussion about what you do know, what you're still struggling with, and I will create my assessment there. If I believe that a pretest may be necessary in order to figure out your strengths and opportunities for improvements, then that will be included in our session.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have four years of experience as a Math and Reading tutor at the Kumon Learning Center. I also held many Math and Spanish private tutoring sessions with a student before starting college. I am a literacy tutor through Guilford County Schools. I am also a certified tutor as of December 2022.
