About
As a retired Physical Therapist, I love talking anything "human body." Anatomy & Physiology are my specialties...bones, muscles, nerves, the brain, cardiovascular system, etc., I love helping people understand how the body works! I have a passion to see students get excited about learning sciences having to do with the human body in preparation for future careers in medical or health related fields. I have been tutoring for about 2 years and use a number of ways to help students learn depending on what works best for them. I really enjoy sharing knowledge, teaching by making concepts come alive. I use my clinical background as a way to help students understand the material in a more real life way. I love seeing students reach that moment of "ah ha", when they finally get it!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first find out what a student's goal for the session is and if they are prepared to begin. I usually make it a light-hearted session to break the ice by also includes questions about the student's interests and long-term goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.A. in Biology, Master's in Physical Therapy, practiced Physical Therapy for over 15 years. I am also a Certified Personal Trainer and have worked in the fitness industry for around 4 years. I have CLRA Level 1 certification for Professional Tutoring and have been tutoring at the community college level for almost 2 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $20/hour with the 1st session free for online tutoring or in person. I charge a $3 travel fee for tutoring in person at a designated location.
I also offer package deals per inquiry, which can save students money.
24 hour cancellation notice required or there will be a $10 charge
How did you get started teaching?
I have never formally taught, but started tutoring at a community college after realizing educating people about the human body is my ultimate passion.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students taking college level biology, anatomy, and physiology of all ages, races and genders. Have also worked with quite a number of students with ESOL.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Spending time with my 9 year twin nieces watching football and having tacos. I love hearing about what they are learning and just being an influence in their lives.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher who really enjoys teaching and goes above and beyond to help students understand the material. A teacher with patience, persistence, and who makes learning fun makes the best teacher.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be prepared with questions and be organized. Don't just go into a teacher's office and say "I'm overwhelmed, can you help me?" Try to first break down what you need help with specifically to make the most of your time.
