About

I am a qualified K-5 teacher here in North Carolina. I have been a Kindergarten teacher in North Carolina for the past 6 years. I am originally from the UK and have taught Year 1 for 2 years prior to coming to the US. I love travelling and haring my experience with my students and have the opportunity to teach English as a foreign language to high school aged students from across the world in London and to elementary aged students in both France and Greece.

I love planning engaging and meaningful lessons that spark curiosty and enjoyment in my students; whilst making learning both practical and relevant to my student's needs.

I love teaching and watching students grow in their confidence and ability is a wonderful gift!

    Frequently asked questions

Firstly, I take time to get to know my students and their families; including getting to know my students' needs, my students' likes and dislikes, my students' academic levels and any additional insight families of my students can provide. I then would take time to set goals with my student's and/ or families to ensure that I'm provide the correct support to ensure their goals are met. I feel taking time to do this will ensure student's stay engaged and ultimately be more successful.

I am and have been a qualified teacher for 8 years, this will be my 9th year teaching Kindergarten! I have been working in the field of education and previously childcare for 12 years in total. I have been trained to teach English as a second language in this time. I have also received training in teaching student's with hearing impairment as well a variety of both academic and special educational needs.

I started teaching by volunteering at aged 17, in my local Elementary school to support reading groups, students with IEPs and support in teaching French. I then at 18 went to the University of Cumbria to study Elementary Education and Art. Here I participated in 2 to 3 teaching practices each year; whilst also working in summer camps over my summers. I have had the opportunity to work in a summer camp for students aged 3-7 years old and then in London for students aged 11-21 years old.

In my third year of University I completed a teaching practice in Glyfada, Greece and stayed on to help support summer learning opportunities and teach English. In my fourth, year summer of university I had the opportunity to work in an English class in Lyon, France.

In 2014, I qualified as a Elementary teacher and started working in a Year 1 classroom in Birmingham, UK. In 2016, I moved to the US and taught in a Kindergarten classroom at Dillard Drive Elementary in Raleigh, NC for 5 years. I also have worked and run summer camps for Wake County Schools as well as having the opportunity to organise the Early Start program for rising Kindergarteners. I relocated to Raeford and begin teaching at Aberdeen Elementary School in Aberdeen, NC in 2022.

Students of socioeconomic backgrounds with a variety of prior school (pre-school) experience. I have worked with students who are English Language Learners across four different countries. I have worked in settings where is English is not the primary langauge. I have worked students with a range of both academic and phyiscal needs.

My experience is predominately in Kindergarten aged students.

One of my students who loved school so much they decided to go home and teach their teddies our phonics lesson of the day with a fantastic British accent! The parent of the student shared the video with me and it definately brought a tear my eye.

Be willing to try, have fun and love learning!

Teachers are here to help with any need as best as possible! Students need to feel comfortable and cared for by teachers. We are here to support!
