Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If a student is in need of help, please contact me!
I will coordinate my schedule with the student to find times that work best for tutoring sessions via Zoom.
It is preferrable if the student has assignments or material already available that I can help them with, but I most certainly can provide practice as well.
With new students, I like to gage how much they understand, what they are struggling with, and pinpointing the aspects of the material they need the most help with.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a rising sophmore at UNC Chapel Hill and plan to double major in Biology and Spanish, but I have taken Spanish all throughout middle and high school, so I am proficient enough in the language to be able to help.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My set rate is $30 an hour, but I am willing to work with the student or the customer if prices need to be adjusted.
How did you get started teaching?
My friend recommended me to the parent of a student who was struggling with Spanish class. I started tutoring the high school student one-on-one via Zoom last fall and was able to help them understand the material and get a good grade in the class! We worked on practice assignments provided by the teacher to improve reading, writing, and grammar skills.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have only worked with high school students, but I am able to help students from elementary through high school.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It is very important to think about, "what specific aspect of the material am I not understanding?" Being specific about your needs is important so the tutor can help you pinpoint how to clear up misunderstandings.
