We specialize in teaching students with dyslexia how to read and spell. We also work with grammar and reading comprehension. If you would like to add learning how to write essays, we can accomodate that also.
Deciphering Dyslexia can screen for dyslexia and early screening.
We work over the internet, working one on one with students. It saves time and money.
As the owner, I have alway enjoyed helping others. As my children had dyslexia, I learned how to help them using the Barton Reading and Spelling System. Once I saw how much it helped, I decided to get certified, so I could help more families. I love seeing my students grow in their reading, spelling, and confidence!
Mrs. Brafford has been wonderful with my son. She is very compassionate, understanding, professional and knowledgeable about dyslexia and the needs of a child living with dyslexia. Because of this, now, my son actually likes to read. He is more confident and willing to tackle what was once such a daunting task. Deciphering Dyslexia has made a world of difference in our lives. Every child/person struggling with a learning curve should take this opportunity to open up a "whole new world" with what you will gain from this course of tutoring. Thank you so much.
First, I speak with the parent to find out what problems they are having to make sure I am the correct professional for their needs.
Then I give a short 15 minute screening to the student to find out where they need to start. Once that is determined, tutoring begins.
I have an advanced certification in the Barton Reading and Spelling System for tutoring. I also have been trained to recognized and screen students for dyslexia.
There is a minimum of 2 - 50 minute tutoring sessions per week with tutoring during the summer.
Three of my four children have dyslexia with my son being the most severe. I tried many different programs over the years to teach him how to read with no success. Then a mom told me about the Barton Reading and Spelling System. Wow! What a difference it made in my son's life! I knew other kids needed help. I decided to get certified to tutor. The rest, as they say, is history. I Love helping my students.
All of my students have dyslexia in varying degrees. Some have ADD/ADHD, some have Irlen syndrome in addition to dyslexia. So far the ages are from 5 to 18 years old.
My 17 year old student told his parents that when he had children they would be using the Barton System to learn to read. He also wanted to know why they hadn't used this before to teach him to read! His progress has been amazing!
If you have dyslexia, you need to be taught how to read and spell using an Orton-Gillingham method. Make sure the tutor is using a qualified program.
