About
As a tutor, I stand to provide students with helpful ways to understand the concepts, practice tips to improve performance, and direct assistance with homework and other course assignments. I will take time to learn about each student so that I can tailor my tutoring style to meet their learning needs, as learning is not "one size fits all".
I enjoy helping young people by showing them ways to exceed in their education. Each summer, including the past 5 years, I lead a summer camp teaching young girls, mostly middle schoolers, computational things, programming and other technical concepts. I have seen these young girls become inspired and interested in pursuing technology further in their education. Some have returned as volunteers and mentors to the newcomers.
In addition to the summer camps, I have previous experience tutoring math to students in elementary and middle school (on and off since 2010). I do so because students who need help should have access to it so that they can grasp the concepts and perform better.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
During our first session, I like to take the time to get to know the student by asking a few questions regarding their needs, academic goals, current study habits. We will also discuss expectations, what I expect of them and what they can expect from me. Using this information gathered, I would be able begin to use a certain tutoring methods, such as visual aids or diagrams, flashcards, etc. and as we progress tailor these methods to those that work best for the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Business Analyst within the Financial Industry. I have a Bachelor's in Business Administration and Information Technology and a Master's in Information Technology and Technical Management. Throughout my education, I have learned various areas of math from pre-algebra to Calculus 3 at a collegiate level. Being greatly involved in the technology and financial industries, math is very important to my daily tasks. Also, I have tutored in math, on and off, since 2010.

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching informally, meaning outside of the classroom, many years ago when tutoring students in elementary and middle school. Over time, I have led workshops, summer camps and community events teaching technology and computational thinking to students.
What types of students have you worked with?
Majority of the students I have worked with were in middle school, ages 10-13, but I have worked with students from ages 7-14.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event that I am fond of occurred during the summer where one of the students I team during summer camp shared that participating in the program encouraged her to take computing courses at school and that she has advanced past her counterparts because of the experiences and knowledge gained during the program.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise students to be honest with their tutor and themselves. Doing so will allow us to optimize our time and work efforts to best serve the student.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do I expect from the tutor and myself?
What topics/areas do I need the most assistance in?
What are my goals from this experience?
Am I open-minded to learning different study methods and techniques?
