Ms. Simpson’s Science Tutoring
About
My name is Naima Simpson I have been working out at UNC-Charlotte, doing early drug research since the summer of 2019. I have experience in a chemistry and will be able to help you accomplish all of your goals in chemistry. It is absolutely my favorite subject and I am very passionate about it. I can't wait to help you crush the stigma of chemistry being hard!
I love seeing people finally understanding gas laws, or how their face lights up when they can identify a covalent bond from an ionic. Anyone can spew information at a student but seeing them finally understand a difficult subject is the reason why I love doing this.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I would love to have a full understanding for what you know, what you sort of know, and what you cannot understand no matter what! I will also need a copy of your syllabus to be able to help you map out when you're learning new things and if you need my help with them or if you've got it in the bag. We will brush up on all of the things you do know when your final is coming up, that way we're not wasting time on things you know. I can't say that the next step is concrete for everyone, because everybody learns chemistry very different. However I would like to get through 2 of the subjects you sort of understand and 1 of the subject you just can't seem to get each session. I will also do my very best to find your style of learning the reason you might not be accomplishing all of your goals in chemistry is because the way your teacher gives you information just doesn't work for you, and that's okay!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have completed honors chemistry, worked with a professor at UNC-Charlotte doing early drug research. I am also on track to study as a chemical engineer.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge 15 dollars an hour.
But as I said I love teaching people chemistry if you're unable to pay this amount or if you need a substantial amount of tutoring then we can work out pricing options.
How did you get started teaching?
When I was taking chemistry classes I had straight A's and some of my friends were struggling so I offered to help them. I absolutely loved teaching people about chemistry and it gave me an extra reason to go to Starbucks and pick up a Venti Strawberry Acai. So I thought I try out being a professional tutor.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with average highschool students (mainly sophomores and juniors). I have been told I have a way with people and I try to connect to each person I'm teaching to figure out what clicks for that individual.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When I first started chemistry I was at most average. It wasn't until our school hired a student teacher who helped me connect chemistry to myself, that I started to excel. If you're looking for a chemistry teacher I urge you to find one you can connect to, chemistry just might become your passion.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Before students ask teachers for help with chemistry they need to ask themselves these questions: What do I completely understand in chemistry? What do I have sort of an understanding in? What can I not understand no matter how hard I try?
Asking these questions helps the teacher pin point what they need to help you improve upon so we're not wasting time on things you already have a full understanding of.
