About
ToGo Tutoring is founded upon a policy of convenient and flexible tutoring. Official policy is simple and was inspired by the founder's mother (a decades-experienced teacher herself):
"Meet students wherever they are and make their progress easy enough to continue, but tough enough to be both engaging and rewarding."
Founder, Joel, is a former neuroscience PhD student turned teacher/tutor/writer/etc. His passion for education is second to none and he has the credentials to back up the wide array of topics and classes that he offers.
I love the option to tackle new, different problems on a daily basis. Tutoring rarely becomes boring because every teacher and course, not to mention every student, is different from the next.
Aside from the benefit of novel challenges, I get to see students improve, often in leaps and bounds, right before my eyes. To contribute to their success is always rewarding.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
An initial visit will consist of a brief conversational assessment with students and parents. This assessment will involve discerning the student's learning style(s), desired outcomes, current situation within the course/topic at hand, etc. Following the initial assessment, students and parents are, of course, included in the development of a personalized tutoring program.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a former neuroscience PhD student with a BS in neuro from Davidson College and an MS in neuro from Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, TX). I also have several years of experience in teaching high school and introductory college biology, including AP Biology. However, while biology and science might be considered my forte, I also tutor standardized test prep, reading, writing, statistics, and all levels of mathematics prior to calculus.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is flexible and dependent upon a number of variables. Detailed quotes are available upon request.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have experience working with students (adult students included) from many backgrounds. My style of tutoring is best suited for students who are more outgoing and energetic, but I have been known to "crack" the shell of more reserved and quiet students, generating confidence as we progress in their tutoring.
I should also note that, as someone who suffers from several disabilities (primarily a visual disorder), I am particularly skilled in creatively facilitating learning tricks and tips for students who may find a traditional learning envirionment excessively difficult.
