About

I have much experience teaching kids concepts that they can often find difficult and I am very patient and can explain things in many different ways. I am a straight A senior and am in National Honors Society and have successfully helped tutor other students in my school. Because I am young (18yrs old), i've found that students will respond better to me than an older tutor with tough subjects because there is less of an age barrier. I can personally attest to much preferring a younger person tutoring me when I am insecure about struggles.

Nothing makes me happier than to see that lightbulb turn on in a students eyes once they've figured out a topic! I love incorporating different learning approaches depending on the student. Some kids may remember things better with a song while others require a calisthenic connection. Figuring out that puzzle is very enjoyable for me.

Frequently asked questions

Normally, I would speak to the student and their parent about what they are struggling with and take notes on ideas on how I could best be of service. Once that conversation is over, I prefer to speak to the student away from the parent for a moment to get an idea on how the student truly feels about the plan without familial pressures converging on the conversation. After these conversations are over, I would have to decide if I would be the best option for the student as I humbly understand that I am not always the best person for them. If I determine that I am unqualified, then I will attempt to recommend another tutor. However, if I deduce that I am qualified I will speak with the family about scheduling and move on from there. I would then ask the student to take a 20 question quiz from educationplanner.org to help me determine what kind of learning style the student has as everyone is different.

I am not a formally trained Tutor; however, I have much experience tutoring classmates at my school. I have been told that I am very good at explaining complex topics and am very encouraging while I do it.

I charge a minimum of $20/hr and may raise the price depending on what is being asked of me in the tutoring sessions; however, this is unlikely to raise.

Before hiring a tutor I would recommend that students think about their favorite teachers they've had throughout their life and meditate on what about that teacher made them so impactful. Was it their energy? their support? their way of explaining topics? Once you've pinpointed the characteristic, look for that trait in the tutors you try to hire. This should greatly increase your chances of finding a tutor best for you.
