About
My goal is to build study and learning skills with all of my students so that they can build confidence in independent learning. Nothing makes me happier than hearing that my students have grown beyond the need for my services. I try to achieve this by getting to know my students and adapting my teaching style to their specific needs, and planning goals-based lessons that will help students build skills while also completing their homework/studies.
I have been teaching in various forms for nearly ten years. I am a certified TEFL Teacher and have experience teaching high school English, History, World Geography, and Civics, as well as ACT Prep courses. I have taught groups of students and one-on-one lessons. Finally, I have experience teaching in classrooms, in public places, and even outdoors. I have a Master's Degree in History and am currently employed as a Teaching Assistant at UNC while working on my doctoral degree.

My favorite moment in teaching is seeing the amazement in my students when they realize what they can do independently with a little practice. I want my students to achieve their full potential, and each step towards that goal brings me joy.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to spend a good portion of the first session getting to know new students. I try to understand their academic (and nonacademic) interests, goals, and challenges so that I can better tailor my teaching tyle to their needs. From there, I like to work with them on material directly related to their schoolwork (either homework, reviewing classwork, or going through the textbook). I do not provide answers, and I try to avoid explaining as much as possible. Instead, I use leading questions to guide my students to find answers on their own. This helps them to develop confidence in their own learning so that they can be more successful students in all of their classes.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a master's degree in History from UNC and am working on my Ph.D. I am a certified TEFL instructor and have ten years of various forms of education experience, including tutoring, traditional classroom instruction, and outdoor education for students aged 6 through adulthood.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $45 per hour regardless of the subject or number of students. I am willing to tutor up to 4 students at a time, though I do not take responsibility for organizing group lessons.
