About this tutor

Struggling? Frustrated?

I understand the pain! In middle school I wasn’t good at math, until I received tutoring that made all the difference. I went on to:

— earn a M.S. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics,
— earn a Secondary Teaching Certification, and
— teach in high schools and colleges.

After teaching in high schools and colleges, I found that tutoring one-on-one was my true passion. Not everyone learns the same way, and this makes teaching 20-30 students all at once extremely difficult.

Tutoring is, therefore, more effective. I can tailor the lesson to meet the individual student's needs. I love it when I can take a student who is struggling and frustrated, and transform them into a confident learner. It is by far the most rewarding job I've ever had. I absolutely love what I do.

Nicholas is absolutely fantastic to work with and has been so helpful to our daughter, who has always struggled with math. He is quick to assess where a student is and come up with a plan. My daughter enjoys working with him and never complains about tutoring which is a huge deal, because she was very resistant at first. Nicholas is in frequent contact with us about her progress and next steps which we appreciate so much. We were a little reluctant about online tutoring but it has been so effective and convenient! We highly recommend Nicholas to anyone looking for a math or science tutor.

Nicholas is great! Not only is he knowledgable, patient, and helpful, he really cares about what he does and his passion shows.

  • Cathy Robinson

Nicholas is an amazing teacher and tutor. He explains difficult concepts easily and clearly. Most of all, he really invested himself 100% in the sessions, and took time outside of the appointment to prepare reports, assignments, and assessments. Definitely an A+ tutor.

Nicholas helped immensely. He was really dedicated, and the results were fantastic. Test scores and confidence greatly improved.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

First I have a free-of-charge conversation with the student to determine what they struggle with, and where they are in their coursework. In that conversation we make sure we'll work well together.

Then we start tutoring! Today I tutor exclusively online.

Throughout the process the student will receive:

— Personalized instruction based on individual learning styles

— Specific lesson plans tailored to specific goals

— Additional materials and exercises to help reach those goals

If the student is younger, I'm often in contact with the parent, if desired, on the student's progress.

How did you get started teaching?

I got started teaching when I was pursuing my B.S. in Biology and Chemistry. I was asked by my professors to tutor peers that weren't doing as well.

When I left graduate school, I decided that I wanted to teach, so I completed a teaching certification to teach in High Schools. Ultimately though, I decided I preferred educating students in a one-on-one environment.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with high school students and college students of various ages and backgrounds.
