Ms. Rector’s Science And Math Tutoring
About
I'm a science teacher at a middle school in Garner, and I have a good amount of experience tutoring science and math all the way up through pre-cal. I went to NC State and majored in biology and animal science so I have taken multiple chemistry, anatomy, and biology classes and am committed to helping you achieve your academic goals.
I care a lot. I'm very good at taking a concept down to its most simple point and then adding on more complex ideas in a way that will help you understand it. I'm a teacher, so working with students to achieve and be successful is one of my joys in life. I also really look forward to tutoring more high school and college students as I don't get to dive as deep as I would want into content with my middle school students.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by generally getting to know the student. Asking them about their interests and then getting in to their academic goals and why they need my help. After we talk about that I like to look over some of their previous work to see what they need to go back and review and then we can start working on a homework or some practice problems together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Two degrees from N.C. State (biology and animal science) I am a science teacher, and I have also tutored math and science through Sylvan learning center and wake county public schools.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I keep it pretty simple, and typically price $20 an hour for any class.
How did you get started teaching?
I actually started in pre-school after graduating college. In 2018 I was feeling like I wanted to work with more advanced subject matter and so I started working on getting a teaching license to work in middle schools and I also started tutoring. I started teaching middle school in the 2018 school year, so I am currently on my fourth year of teaching in public schools. Like I said before, I really love middle school but sometimes miss getting to dive deeper into curriculum more on the high school and college level.
What types of students have you worked with?
As a public school teacher and a tutor, I have had the opportunity to work with many different types of students. High level, ones that need lots of help, some that need a challenge, motivated, unmotivated, I've worked with elementary, middle, and high school students of all abilities. Every student I have taught has the potential to be successful and I love working with all of them.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher that cares because it is much easier to learn when you are comfortable with your teacher.
