Strong Writing

I love supporting students of all ages and abilities to express their thoughts, feelings and visions through powerful, clear writing. I enjoy finding the strengths in someone's writing, helping to bring that forward while gently helping build skills that are more challenging. Everyone has a unique voice and a need to express themselves. I love seeing people grow more confident in their ability to communicate!

With writing support, I find it helps to listen closely, to see what kind of focus is needed, whether it's overall organization, sentence structure or simply thinking verbally. Sometimes writing students just need encouragement and support to get past the sense of overwhelm associated with creating a piece of writing. I help people find the ease that's waiting for them and the confidence that helps them find clarity.

As a high school English teacher in New York City, I loved reading my students' writing and see them learn to organize their thoughts on the page. I loved connecting with them, finding out what each needed in order to feel more sure of themselves. Encouragement, humor and an ability to inspire always seemed to help.

I studied journalism in college, reporting on political news at the New Jersey State House through a prestigious internship. After that, I worked for a weekly newspaper where I won awards in features and news writing. Since then I have focused on my career in counseling while enjoying my own fiction and essay writing, taking adult education courses to continue honing my skills.
