I can help with a wide range of issues because I have a wide range of experience. Whatever your issue is, I've probably seen it before!
I'm a professional writer and editor with experience in academics, journalism, marketing, and corporate communications. I've taught writing in middle school, high school, and college. I've also done writing training and coaching for corporations.
I love teaching and coaching! I started teaching when I was 7 years old - I was so excited about learning to read, I went home and taught my little sister how to read! I want to help students with problems, and even better, help them understand how they can avoid those kinds of problems in the future.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I want talk to them first, to see why they requested tutoring and what they think they need. Then I'd like to see their writing. That will give me an idea of their skills in general.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA and an MA in English. I've had further training in business communications, in narrative nonfiction, and in poetry.
How did you get started teaching?
I was so excited about learning to read in first grade that I went home and taught my little sister how to do it! I taught writing in college after my MA, then I spent years as a professional writer and editor. I've coached and trained people in writing at every job I've ever had, even when it wasn't in my job description. I started teaching and coaching writers full time in 2017.
What types of students have you worked with?
High school students as a long-term substitute classroom teacher; middle school and high school students as an online teacher and tutor; college students as a classroom teacher and online tutor. I've coached adults in both journalism and business contexts.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Try to find someone who has experience in the area in which you need help. If you need help with business writing, find someone who's done that. If you need help with a college essay, try to find someone who has taught essay writing or tutored college students.
