About

I really enjoy getting to know my students. Classroom setting are not really conducive to the kind of specific atttention possible in one on one instruction.

I am very motivated by student success. Whether that means acing the ACT or finally figuring out the difference between "who" and "whom", I love seeing students achieve their goals!

    Frequently asked questions

When I meet with a new student I like to first establish what their goals and timeline are. The next step is to evaluate the student's learning style and content knowledge. I then use this combined information to formulate a results oriented learning plan.

I have a BFA in studio Painting with a minor in Art History. I have worked as writer and artist for 30 years and have 6 years of experience as a professional tutor.

I charge $50 per hour but may have a minimum number of sessions required, depending on the goals of the student.

My mother was an elementary school teacher and I grew up in the education community. I loved helping her with younger students and hanging out in her classroom. To help pay for college I fell naturally into tutoring fellow students and helping with essay writing. Then later I added art lessons. I eventually did the course work for my teachers certification in Texas but ultimately decided that I was more suited to one on one instruction.

I have worked with students of all ages and a range of backgrounds. I have also worked with many international students.

I recently had the opportunity to backpack a section of the Appalachian Trail with my 9 year old daughter, Olivia and our dog Roxie. It was increadible! Both child and beast packed their own food and gear (mostly) and no internet for 5 days! The later was harder on the mom and kid than the dog. :)

I would just make sure you find a good fit for your learning style. Knowledge is one thing but there isn't a "one size fits all" formula for imparting that knowledge. Make sure any prospective tutor asks you a lot of questions about how you process information.

    What is your goal result?

How long do you have to reach that goal?

How much time per week are you willing (and likely) to contribute? Be honest with yourself.

Make a list of things you need help with and then prioritized the list. Include study skills and time management as well as content if appropriate.
