About

My tutoring style is very personal; I work to get to know the student's interests, strengths, weaknesses, and goals so that I know exactly how to help them take interest in what they're learning or reviewing. I work closely with both the teacher and the parents so that I can not only stay current on what the student is learning but I can also prepare them for the upcoming assignments and assessments.

My favorite part about the work that I do as a tutor is the fact that I am benefiting both the student and their regular classroom instructor. When I was a teacher with 90+ students rotating out of my classroom each day, I was unable to give the personalized help to my students as often as I wanted. My work as a tutor alievates some of the challenges and the time constraints that the regular teacher faces. As a tutor, I am able to create a personalized plan to aid each individual student, and I am also able to dedicate the extra time to ensure the student’s success.

Frequently asked questions

I graduated from one of the first completely online, Christian school curriculums, A Beka Academy. Soon after that, I attended and graduated from Pensacola Christian College with both my B.A. in Youth Ministries and my M.S. in Educational Leadership and Administration. I taught for two years in both the Christian and Public school systems and I have over 300 logged tutoring hours as a remedial English tutor for the Boys and Girls Club of Covington County. I do not have my formal teaching certificate as of yet, however I am in the process of completing the requirements for certification with the National Tutoring Association.
I offer both in-person tutoring sessions as well as virtual tutoring session for the same standard price of $20-$25 per hour tutoring session per student; however, if the family has two or more students, the price is combined and lowered to $40 for each tutoring hour for the combined price of all students. I do not mind driving up to 70 miles away for an in-person tutoring session, however the student will need to schedule for a two hour session minimum and the price will be $35 per hour.
My first year of teaching, I taught at a small, church affiliated, Christian school in Arizona. I only had three boys in 7th grade. In our World History class, I would teach the lesson and my boys would act it out. It made the story personal to them as they pretended to be notable key figures in history, both the hero and the villain. Although it’s been almost five years and my boys are getting ready to graduate from high school, their parents still reach out every year to let me know that the boys still consider seventh grade to be their favorite year.
My advice would be to look for a tutor who is not only professional but also relatable. The ideal tutor is someone who gets to know you and your unique background and creates a learning plan that is personalized to your specific learning needs.
