Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I spend the first 10-15 minutes with a student just talking and getting to know them. What do they like to do, what's their favorite subject, etc. I also ask some kind of weird questions like do they enjoy listening to stories more than reading or watching them. Are they more likely to remember something you tell them if they're moving than if they're stationary? These questions help me to know what kind of a learner they are and I'm able to structure our lessons and my examples to what fits them best.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been working as a classroom teacher in a religious setting for the last 7 years and have been a tutor for 8. I specialize in working with students individually who struggle to learn in a larger classroom setting. This is the specialized work that I have done for the last 3 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Standard prices for High School Level Courses:
1 Hour - $60
30 Minutes - $35
1.5 Hours and up - $60 for the first hour and then $25 for every half hour after.
College Level Courses start at $65/hr and go up depending on the level of study.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching because I saw how some students would just skate by the teacher, asking for help understanding but not getting the information in a way they could learn. I was one of those students. I've learned as many different teaching methods and example problems as I could so I could be the teacher who could show them the answer in the way they could learn.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students from ages 13- over 50. If you're struggling to learn, I can help.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Is your struggle in understanding how something works or why it works? The answer to that question can tell your teacher exactly what help you need.
