Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In the initial meeting, we will go over goals, expectations, and the duration for which you want to meet (in weeks/months/hours). We might start initially on a first lesson to get you thinking about the tutoring to come.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master's degree in Psychology - Behavioral Neuroscience and have published articles all over the internet including Psychology Today and literary magazines. These skills have molded me to be an apt critical thinker and I can show my students how to apply my skills to any challenge they face in their related careers and schooling.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $40/hour. Rates negotiable if you sign on with me for multiple sessions.
How did you get started teaching?
I was a graduate assistant and a teaching assistant all throughout my time in graduate school. I've tutored students in basic math, English, psychology, and human sexuality.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students anywhere from the 8th grade to college level.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I'm pleased to say that I graduated with my first Master's in Behavioral Neuroscience in December 2021 and I applied for a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing to begin the Fall of 2022.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure to look for teachers who will show you how to build sustainable skills that can be grown over time. Without a foundational structure to school and work, you will simply be left to continue to pouring out empty money for sessions that won't help you in the long run.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The students should really have a good skill of self reflection and self knowledge in order to identify gaps in the student's knowledge and what they are supposed to know. It is up to the student to be up front and communicate about his/her struggles, and it's important to be very honest about what you need work on.
