Jennifer O'Brien

My name is Jennifer O'Brien and I am a certified teacher. I have worked for the Independence school district since 2014. I have taught 2nd grade and also 4th grade. I also taught virtually for the district for two years. The first year of virtual I taught 4th grade and the second year I taught 2nd grade. After virtual teaching was ended I decided to make a change.

Currently I work as a Resource Paraprofessional in the elementary special education setting. I lead small groups or teach one on one. We focus on skills needed to move forward in their education. My day could be anything from teaching the letters and sounds, number recognition and value, strategies for adding and subtracting, regrouping, long division, multiplication, reading fluency, reading comprehension, or writing.

I love teaching and the challenge of helping students understand what feels impossible. Often the way it is presented in the classroom does not make sense. Sometimes the lesson just simply moves to fast for the skill to become mastered by the student.

My overall goal is to teach, or reinforce skills needed, so students feel more confident in their classroom.
