About

Chemistry is often so confusing, boring and abstract, but it doesn't have to be that way! Chemistry is not some mysterious subject that only a few can comprehend, but just another element of knowledge in general. As with any discipline, practice leads to proficiency, and that practice needs to be guided by an expert. No one gains mastery in any subject without guidance. The problem for many people is that they were only told what to do, but never told why to do it. For others, they were never presented with an easy-to-follow step-by-step process for solving problems. I can help you unlock the mystery of chemistry and get you on the road to comprehension. In my time as a tutor and a teacher, I have instructed students at all stages of life and chemistry development: from middle schoolers to adults in on college, from middle school science to college-level Chemistry.

In addition to tutoring in the science disciplines, I also specialize in test preparation. Children and adults alike have test anxiety, but again, it doesn't need to be that way! Preparing for a test means more than just being familiar with the subject material: improving one's score also requires the right test-taking skills, such as pacing, eliminating incorrect responses, strategic guessing, and alternative strategies (such as backsolving and plugging-in-numbers). Although I am a certified teacher with a Master's degree in Secondary Education and a Masters degree in Chemistry and. Bachelors degree in Biology, I feel my biggest assets are my tutoring experience and my ability to connect with students. I also worked in industry for 10 years before becoming a teacher and I am able to bring in real life examples and constructs to make chemistry more relatable.

Another area in which I can be of assistance is writing, as I am skilled in technical writing and have a strong understanding of the process of writing research papers, from brainstorming to constructing a thesis to finding and citing references to editing. I've taken care to educate myself on the rules of grammar, punctuation, and format, and I'm familiar with the different schools of style, such as MLA. What most people don't understans is there is a lot of writing in science.

I have a Bachelors in Biology and Masters in Chemistry. I worked in chemical and biological research for 10 years prior to becoming a teacher. As a chemist I provided analytical support and product discovery and this experience has truly haloed me become a better educator.

I want to know my students as much as possible to help them succeed. I believe it is vital that I understand how children develop cognitively, socially, emotionally and physically. I also believe that it is my responsibility to understand how students learn and how this changes over time. I can then differentiate my lesson plans to tailor to my students and reflect on what has or has not worked. To be successful I need to understand where a student is currently functioning and where they will be functioning in the future. This will allow me to better aid the student with the correct learning tools and concepts.

I have a Bachelors degree in Biology and a Masters degree in Chemistry and Teaching. I also worked in research for 10 years before I became a teacher.

I typically charge $40 for Chemistry and $60 for AP Chemistry, test prep or college chemistry.

During my graduate studies I taught freshman college chemistry courses and I truly did enjoy it. After I graduated, I went in to research for approximately 10 years. I traveled a lot and taught other chemists around the world on analytical techniques. However, I did not find this a very fulfilling job and I felt like I was missing out on something. A good friend of mine told me I would be a phenomenal teacher and that I should really look at going back to school. It started out taking one class and in a year and a half I had my degree Masters of Arts in Teaching. It was one of the best decisions of my life!

I have worked with a diverse group of students. My students are typically white based on demographics, but I have taught several other nationalities. The classes I have taught have been lower level chemistry for students looking at going to trade school and up to AP Chemistry where students are looking for college credit. I also teach regular and honors chemistry.

This year alone has been interesting because of the pandemic. AP chemistry testing was extremely different and in order to keep my student spirits up I spent a day dropping off presents and balloons at each of their houses. To see their excitement just made me smile. All I cared about was that smile and to give them a little encouragement. After the AP testing a bunch of the students drove by my house honking in a little parade thanking me for all that I have done. One of the best moments in my years of teaching was the gratefulness my students.

I would personally look for a teacher with experience and who has taught several levels of chemistry. That will differentiate the teacher and the lessons among their students. I would also look for someone who has had industry experience because that person can connect real life situations with a difficult subject like chemistry.

I think students need to ask himself what is the best way of learning. Are they visual, are the auditory, or do they like to move to learn. This can help a tutor differentiate a lesson plan or a plan of action when it comes to teaching them a particular subject.
